Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about this template.

What is a tip sharing template for?

It documents how much goes into the tip pot, which employees worked each shift, which rule was applied and how much each person gets. In restaurants, cafés and hotels it cuts down on arguments, avoids things being forgotten and leaves a history you can check when someone asks about a past split.

Which splitting rules can I use?

The template works with simple rules such as an equal split, a split by hours worked, a points system by role or a fixed percentage between departments. As it is an editable Excel file, you can adapt the formula to your internal agreement, collective agreement (convenio), company policy or the usual practice in your venue.

Does it track shifts and departments?

Yes. You can separate lunch, dinner, bar, dining room, terrace, events, room service or any other outlet. That is useful when not the whole team works the same service, or when a hotel needs to keep restaurant, bar and event tips apart.

Does it help avoid disputes with the team?

It does, because it makes the split a visible process: starting amount, adjustments, staff included, hours or points counted, who closed and a receipt signature. It does not replace a clear internal policy, but it stops the split depending on loose notes or one person's memory.

How should I keep a record of past tips?

Close one sheet per day or week, save the file with the date and keep the monthly summary. With several venues, add the site, manager and shift. For busier businesses, management software saves you duplicating sheets, keeps staff in one place and lets you review amounts by period without redoing the sums.
